The NIMPA+ Project, has officially handed over a new educational museum display at the Namibia Maritime Museum aimed at raising awareness about the Namibian Islands Marine Protected Area (NIMPA) and the unique marine and coastal ecosystems it protects.
The display serves as an interactive educational resource that introduces visitors to the ecological significance of NIMPA, one of Namibia’s most important conservation areas. Through engaging visuals and informative content, visitors can learn about the region’s rich biodiversity, including seabirds, marine mammals, coastal wetlands, and the vital role these ecosystems play in supporting both nature and local communities.
The initiative forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen ocean literacy and promote public understanding of marine conservation in Namibia. By making information about NIMPA more accessible to a wider audience, the display aims to inspire greater appreciation for the country’s marine heritage and encourage responsible stewardship of ocean resources.
The museum display was made possible through the generous support of the Blue Marine Foundation, whose funding contributed to the development and installation of the exhibit. This support reflects a shared commitment to strengthening marine conservation awareness and ensuring that more people can engage with and learn about Namibia’s globally significant marine environment.
The handover marks another important milestone in the NIMPA+ Project’s commitment to environmental education and stakeholder engagement. Through partnerships and innovative awareness initiatives such as this museum display, the project continues to foster meaningful connections between people and the ocean while supporting the long-term conservation of Namibia’s marine environment.
