Celebrating World Oceans Day with the Swakopmund Community

In celebration of World Oceans Day, the NIMPA+ Project team spent a Saturday morning engaging with members of the Swakopmund community, sharing knowledge and raising awareness about marine and coastal conservation in Namibia.
The outreach event provided an opportunity for community members to learn more about the Namibian Islands Marine Protected Area (NIMPA), its ecological significance, and the ongoing work being undertaken to protect Namibia’s unique marine and coastal ecosystems. Through conversations, educational materials, demonstrations, and interactive engagement, participants gained insight into the importance of marine conservation and the role that healthy oceans play in supporting both biodiversity and human well-being.
World Oceans Day serves as a reminder that everyone has a role to play in protecting our oceans. The enthusiasm and interest shown by the Swakopmund community underscore the growing momentum behind efforts to safeguard Namibia’s marine heritage for future generations.
