Ocean Literacy Toolkit for Namibia

The Ocean Literacy Toolkit is a comprehensive resource designed to enhance ocean education in Namibia. The toolkit introduces the Seven Principles of Ocean Literacy, adapted to the Namibian context, making it a valuable guide for educators, students, and conservation advocates.

What is ocean literacy? 

Every person on earth is connected to the ocean, from the food we eat to the air we breathe. No matter where you live, be it by the coast or many miles inland, the ocean features in your life every single day. We sometimes forget that humans are part of the natural world, rather than simply being observers or outsiders. Although we still have much to learn, what we do know is that our very existence is impossible without a healthy ocean, and that the health of our ocean is under threat. 

Ocean literacy is defined as an understanding of how you impact the ocean and how the ocean impacts you.

Disney Andreas is a dedicated communications professional with five years of experience at the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF). In her current role as Senior Communications Officer, she leads the development and implementation of strategic communications that elevate conservation awareness across Namibia. Her work spans community engagement, project coordination, digital media, media relations, and knowledge-sharing initiatives all driven by a deep belief that conservation is most impactful when communities are empowered to shape and share their own narratives. A passionate advocate for sustainable development and inclusive storytelling, Disney combines technical expertise with heartfelt purpose to help build a more connected and environmentally conscious Namibia.
