Collaboration for a Sustainable Future

The NIMPA+ Project benefits greatly from the collective expertise and resources of an international consortium, underscoring the significance of global cooperation in addressing local and national environmental challenges.

Our Partners

Our partners bring diverse perspectives and specialised skills that enhance the project’s capacity for comprehensive marine conservation and community development.

  • Global Expertise, Local Impact: Working with international partners allows us to leverage cutting-edge technologies and methodologies that have been successfully implemented worldwide. This global insight helps us tailor solutions that are effective and sustainable within the unique context of Namibia’s coastal ecosystems.
  • Strengthened Capacity: The collaboration ensures a robust exchange of knowledge and skills, building local capacities in marine management, scientific research, and community engagement. This empowerment facilitates long-term sustainability and resilience within our communities.
  • Enhanced Resources: By joining forces with esteemed global institutions, the project secures additional funding, technical support, and visibility, all of which are crucial for the extensive scope of our conservation and community enhancement initiatives.

Through this synergistic partnership, the NIMPA+ Project not only advances marine conservation efforts but also supports the sustainable development of Namibia’s coastal regions, ensuring that environmental preservation and community welfare go hand in hand.

Dave Messing

Senior Expert, Waste and Marine Litter

I was born in the US and grew up next to Long Island Sound. Ever since, I’ve felt an affinity with the ocean.

I hold a bachelor’s degree in psychology with a minor in film, as well as a master’s degree in global health. I wrote my thesis on sustainable actions to mitigate the impact of marine microplastics. I also served over two years with the Peace Corps in El Salvador as an agroforestry volunteer, working on nature-positive solutions in land management and alternatives to burning domestic waste. During my time there I led a film-based initiative to help create awareness on environmental issues including deforestation, pollution, recycling, and climate change.

My work with GRID-Arendal gives me the opportunity to explore various topics relevant to marine litter, such as the UN Global Wastewater Initiative and the UNEA resolution on sustainable nutrient management, and further my passion for protecting the marine environment.

I am currently living on a car-free island off the southern coast of Norway. I enjoy playing the ukulele & guitar, snowboarding, hiking, and spending time with my two daughters.

I believe storytelling plays an important role in society, helping us understand the complexity of our world. My expertise lies in visual storytelling, animation, and illustration.
