The NIMPA+ project team, comprising representatives from the Namibia Nature Foundation (NNF) and GRID-Arendal, is currently participating in the Our Ocean Conference (OOC), where global leaders, policymakers, conservation practitioners, and development partners have convened to advance action for a healthy and sustainable ocean.
The conference provides an important platform for the NIMPA+ team to share lessons and successes from the Namibian Islands Marine Protected Area (NIMPA), while engaging with international partners on innovative approaches to marine conservation, ocean governance, and sustainable development. Through participation in high-level discussions, technical sessions, and networking events, the team is contributing Namibia’s experiences and learning from global best practices that can help strengthen marine conservation efforts at home.
As countries work towards achieving ambitious global ocean targets, including the protection of 30% of the world’s oceans by 2030, the NIMPA+ project continues to demonstrate the importance of effective management, collaboration, and community engagement in ensuring marine protected areas deliver lasting benefits for biodiversity and people alike.
The team’s participation at the Our Ocean Conference reinforces the project’s commitment to fostering partnerships, sharing knowledge, and supporting impactful ocean action both nationally and internationally.
